By the Water
imagined with a bald cypress
This series comes from the tangled vines at the edge of the Huron River, seen while floating along in a canoe. Bare branches balance over the bank, twisting and reflecting in the water. They feel strong and direct, but also delicate, ornate, and full of movement.
These are double-walled planters. Cutout, lattice-like forms make up the outer walls and feet, while the interior holds a protected space for a succulent or small tree. Layers of underglaze washes and glaze build up the surface, adding depth and variation.
