Class (adults): Designing Your Surface: Line, Inlay, and Mark-Making

    In this class, you’ll explore new ways to treat the surface of your works by making marks, trailing slips, carving into the clay, learning new ways to use wax and burying color through the process of inlay. Each method changes the character of the designs you create on the surface of your works.

    We begin our semester practicing the individual techniques and complete it with making works that combine the techniques you've learned.

Workshop (adults): Botanical Wall Pocket Workshop

  • Aug 1st, 2026, 10-12:30

  • Graye’s Greenhouse

  • Pressing a fern frond into soft clay leaves a record of the plant -- capturing veins, edges, and texture. In this workshop, you'll use leaves and flower petals as tools, applying a two-color resist technique to create pattern and texture directly on the surface of a pre-formed ceramic wall pocket, roughly the size of your hand.

    Each piece is professionally glazed and fired, then returned to Graye's for pickup with an air plant ready to nest inside.

    No ceramics experience needed.
